NOTES REGARDING THE ADDITIONAL COSTS:
1.) With a few exceptions, the base charter fees quoted are
for the yachts and crew. Additional expenses are your consumables, including
fuel, food, liquor, marina dockage fees, local taxes, cell phone, satellite
communications, scuba diving, taxis, and any items of a personal nature.
These expenses usually average an additional 25 percent to 30 percent of
the base charter fee. The money for your expenses is collected with your
final payment a month prior to the charter, hence the name Advance Provisioning
Allowance (APA). The APA is forwarded to the Captain and is used to provision
and fuel the yacht prior to your arrival. The Captain keeps an ongoing tally
of your expenses during the charter, which you can ask to see at any time.
Should you not use your entire APA, you'll be refunded the difference before
you disembark. Conversely, should you exceed your APA, you'll be presented
with a bill for the balance.
2.) The Value Added Tax (VAT) or Sales Tax is an additional 4 to
5% of the base charter fee in Greece, 6 to 7% in Florida, 4% in the
Bahamas, 7% in Canada, 10% in Mexico. There is no sales tax or VAT
in New England or the Caribbean, and for the most part VAT has been
eliminated in the Mediterranean. Local cruising taxes are another
matter, however, and often apply in the Caribbean (it varies with
every charter boat, but they are nominal).
3.) Yacht crew work far longer hours than any other service industry,
and still provide an exceptional level of service. A gratuity for
the crew is entirely at your discretion, but is customarily given
for a job well done. We suggest 15% to 20% of the base charter
fee as a tip for charters in the Western Med, Caribbean, Bahamas,
or USA, and somewhat less (10% to 15%) in the Eastern Med. Some
clients tip more! The gratuity can be given to the Captain to be
divided equitably, or crew members can be tipped individually.
4.) Personal travel, cancellation/curtailment, and Charterer's liability
insurance are not included in your charter fee or APA, and must be
arranged separately.
5.) There may be a yacht delivery/redelivery fee, depending on
the location of the yacht and the requested charter destination.
